Library functions and operations like transactions, searching, self-checking of outstanding borrowings and backend functions have been automated using Koha
library software.
OPAC for Library Catalogue Search: students can search library books and other resources through an Online Library Catalogue (OPAC).
OPAC allows users to search bibliographic details of books, periodicals, project reports, videocassettes, CDs, Cases and company annual reports. OPAC allows users to search books by
author, title, publisher, accession number, subject, class no. and keywords.
Remote access: Since the campus is Wi-Fi enabled, the users can access library resources and OPAC across the campus, including the library building. The library has taken all possible steps to provide IP-based access to its internet-based data subscriptions. In other words, access to databases is authenticated by IP.
Automated library operations: The library back-end operations, such as acquisition, processing, bill payment, reminders, serials control, and stock verification, have been automated using the in-house developed library s/w. The data could be migrated to Excel spreadsheets.
Inter Library Loan (ILL) and Networking :
The library is a member of DELNET (Developing Library Network), New Delhi. The network allows mutual lending of resources, and the library has a good network with local libraries affiliated with Manipal University.
Photocopying & Binding
The photocopying facility is available in the library [documentation centre] for all its users. The lamination and spiral binding facilities are also available at the centre. On request, arrangements could be made to bind students' project reports.
Text Book Service:
Considering the problem of obtaining the required textbooks in Manipal, the library procures textbooks for various courses in the Institute. It distributes them to students as course material, which can be carried with them. This service is much appreciated and needed for remote places like Manipal, where no good bookshops exist.
Digital Library:
Though the campus, including the library, is Wi-Fi enabled, many institutions' publications are preserved on local servers accessible only through LAN. The library has 10 internet/intranet-enabled terminals for accessing digital resources on LAN.
Library Portal:
The library portal has been developed and uploaded to the intranet with all hyperlinks for access. The portal is getting updated very regularly with more and more resources.
Library Staff Service:
The library has dedicated staff to serve users. The staff try their best to meet users' requirements. Users much appreciate the team-based service of library staff.
